“The wilderness is healing, a therapy for the soul.”
LOOKING FOR ANSWERS OR MAYBE A MIRACLE?
Blackwater Outdoor Experiences treats adolescent girls and boys ages 14 to 18. Using an individualized, strengths-based approach and focusing on the core issue, Blackwater Outdoor Experiences can effectively assess and treat adolescents struggling with a wide range of mental-health challenges.
From occasional use to total dependency, Blackwater Outdoor Experiences helps participants identify, understand, and move away from the core reasons for their substance abuse.
Focusing on daily processing tasks and identification of executive functioning challenges associated with ADHD, Blackwater Outdoor Experiences challenges participants to discover new coping strategies for everyday life.
Through exploration of self, family, and the environment, participants start to come to terms with their trauma, define how their coping strategies have helped them, and identify their strengths that will allow them to process and flourish.
More than anything, wilderness living emphasizes the importance of self-care. Blackwater Outdoor Experiences creates challenges both at the individual and group level to foster a shift in attitude and perception toward self-help.
Individuals struggling with hopelessness, negative self-talk, loss of motivation, and even suicidal ideation find solace and confidence in their daily wilderness living tasks and experiences.
Natural and created consequences throughout the experience highlight participants’ choices and the impact they have on themselves and other. This feedback loop reinforces good decision making and encourages teamwork.
