Blackwater's 22-Day Field Detox Program is designed to aid adolescents and adults to foster positive growth and change in their own lives, as well as build healthy relationships in their family, school, work and community. By combining wilderness therapy and a comprehensive approach to substance abuse and drug addiction treatment, with a variety of outdoor experiences (canoeing, backpacking, rock climbing and caving), our program is designed to provide assistance
in the following areas:
- Disease Concept of Addiction
- Addiction Cycle
- Levels of Use and Abuse
- Relapse and Recovery
Pharmacotherapy
For many clients, medical withdrawal will precede departure on the 22-day Wilderness Therapy Expedition, and in some cases may require 7-10 days of continued withdrawal in the field with medical supervision from George Bright, M.D. (founder of Blackwater Outdoor Experiencea and the Adolescent Health & Family Center, USA). When appropriate, clients are offered a new antagonist, Vivtrol, a long acting injectable Naltrexone at the end of the field experience. This, in combination with continued psychosocial treatment, provides the clients the greatest potential for regaining a healthy and rewarding life.
